Handle Miss Punch Requests
Updated 8/14/20262 min read
Employees submit a Miss Punch request from their dashboard when they forget to check in or out; administrators review pending requests under Miss Punch Requests and approve or reject each one.
Forgotten punches are inevitable in any company, no matter how good your shift and geofencing configuration is—phones die, employees forget, or a genuine geofencing edge case blocks a legitimate check-in. Rather than manually editing attendance records directly (which leaves no clear trail of why a change was made), Hoicko HRMS routes a correction request through the same style of approval flow used for leave, keeping a clean, auditable history of who changed what, when, and why.
This matters more than it might seem for compliance and trust reasons. If an employee's attendance record can be silently edited by anyone with admin access, that undermines the reliability of the whole system. Routing corrections through Miss Punch requests means every change to a punch record has an employee-submitted reason and an administrator's explicit approval attached to it.
Step-by-step:
- The employee opens the Miss Punch tile from their dashboard and selects the date and reason for the missed check-in or check-out—for example, "Personal reason" or "Forgot to punch in/out."

- The request appears in the administrator's Miss Punch Requests panel, tagged as pending, alongside the employee's stated reason.
- The administrator reviews the request and the employee's stated reason, cross-checking against location data or other context if needed.
- The administrator approves or rejects the request; approved requests automatically update that day's attendance record, correcting it as though the punch had happened normally.
FAQ
Who can approve miss punch requests?
Approval permissions follow the same role structure as leave approvals—typically managers and owners, consistent with how other approval-based workflows are scoped in HRMS.
Is there a limit to how many miss punch requests an employee can submit?
Hoicko HRMS doesn't enforce a hard limit, but administrators can monitor frequent miss punches through the Attendance Report to spot patterns worth addressing directly with an employee, rather than relying on the system to flag it automatically.
Does an approved miss punch count as a late arrival?
No—once approved, the corrected time replaces the missing punch in the attendance record entirely, so it's treated as a normal check-in or check-out rather than a lateness flag against the employee's record.
What happens if a miss punch request is rejected?
The original attendance gap remains unresolved and continues to show as an unexplained absence or missing punch on that day's record, so the employee may need to follow up directly with their manager if they believe the rejection was in error.
