Tracking Employee Performance Trends
Updated 8/24/20261 min read
A single performance review captures a snapshot in time, but the more genuinely useful question is often about the trend — is this employee's performance improving, holding steady, or declining across multiple review cycles?
How to track performance trends
- Open the relevant employee's record inside Hoicko HRMS.
- Review their performance scorecard history, which retains data across each past review cycle rather than overwriting it with the most recent one.
- Add a Line Chart widget to a dashboard, using performance score as the tracked metric over time, to visualize the trend clearly rather than reading through individual past reviews one at a time.
Why trend data changes management conversations
A manager walking into a review conversation with only the current score available has far less context than one who can see the full trajectory — a slight dip in an otherwise consistently strong trend reads very differently than the same dip appearing at the end of a longer decline. Trend data turns a single data point into a genuinely useful narrative.
Using trend data at the team level
Beyond individual employees, aggregating performance trend data across an entire team or department can reveal broader patterns — for example, a team-wide dip coinciding with a change in management, a tooling change, or a particularly demanding project period — insights that would be much harder to spot by reviewing individual scorecards in isolation.
FAQ
Can I see how an employee's performance has changed over multiple review cycles?
Yes, performance scorecard history is retained and can be visualized as a trend.
Why does trend data matter more than a single review score?
It provides context — the same score can mean something very different depending on whether it represents a dip in an otherwise strong trend or the continuation of a longer decline.
