Generating Executive Summary Reports
Updated 8/24/20261 min read
Leadership reviewing a portfolio of initiatives rarely wants — or has time for — the same level of granular detail a PMO team tracks day to day. Executive summaries exist to translate detailed operational data into a format appropriate for a much shorter, higher-level review.
How to generate an executive summary
- Open the Portfolio Dashboard.
- Select "Generate Executive Summary."
- Hoicko AI compiles a condensed report, highlighting key wins, notable risks, and the most important metrics across the portfolio — without requiring the PMO team to manually write this summary from scratch each reporting cycle.
What makes a good executive summary genuinely useful?
The goal isn't to compress the same amount of detail into fewer words — it's to actively filter down to what leadership actually needs to make decisions: which initiatives need executive attention or intervention, which are proceeding smoothly and don't need airtime, and what the overall trend looks like compared to the previous reporting period. A summary that simply lists every initiative with equal weight isn't actually saving leadership any time.
Combining AI generation with human review
While Hoicko AI can meaningfully reduce the manual effort of compiling this summary, most PMO teams still review the AI-generated draft before sending it forward — adding context the underlying data might miss, or adjusting emphasis based on what leadership specifically cares about in a given quarter. The AI draft is a strong starting point, not necessarily the final version.
FAQ
Can Hoicko AI help generate an executive summary automatically?
Yes, the AI Reporting feature can compile a condensed summary from portfolio data.
Should an AI-generated executive summary be sent to leadership without review?
Most teams review and adjust the AI-generated draft first, adding context or emphasis the underlying data alone might not capture.
